Format

  • 20 teams registered for Div-1/Div-2 and 4 teams registered for Div-3 (Social)
  • Div-1/Div-2 teams are divided into four groups of 5 teams whereas for Div-3 (Social) there is only one group
  • Round Robin (All):
    • In Div1/Div2 and Div-3 (Social) there will be round robin played with teams in the same group.
    • Top two teams from each group in Div-1/Div-2 category will advance to Div-1 and will be ranked from 1 through 8 (ranking will be based on number of wins, points scored, points allowed etc. In the rare event of a tie, if applicable head to head record will be taken into consideration, if not a game of single set for 15 points will be played to determine the final ranking)
    • Rest of the teams from all groups in Div-1/Div-2 will be combined together and ranked from 9 through 20. (ranking will be based on number of wins, points scored, points allowed etc. In the rare event of a tie, if applicable head to head record will be taken into consideration, if not a game of single set for 15 points will be played to determine the final ranking)
    • Teams ranked 17, 18, 19 and 20 will move to social (Div-3) group to play in quarter finals.

 

  • Playoffs - Div-3
    • Quarter finals will be played between the four teams in Div-3 and the bottom four teams from Div-1/Div-2 group, winners will advance to semi finals and the losers will be eliminated
    • Semi finals will be played between the four remaining teams, winners will advance to finals and losers will be eliminated
    • Championship game will be played between the two remaining teams

 

  • Playoffs -  Div-1
    • Quarter finals will be played among the eight teams, winners will advance to semi finals and the losers will move to Div-2 to play in quarter-finals
    • Semi finals will be played among the four teams, winners will advance to finals and the losers will move to Div-2 to play in Div-2 semi-finals
    • Championship game will be played between the two remaining teams

 

  • Playoffs -  Div-2
    • Round1 of the quarter finals will be played between the teams ranked 9 through 16, winners will advance to round 2 of quarter finals and losers will be eliminated
    • Round2 of the quarter finals will be played between the winners of round1 in Div-2 and losers of Div-1 quarter finals, winners will advance to semifinals round 1 and losers will be eliminated
    • Round1 of semifinals will be played between the winners of the round 2 quarter finals, winners will advance to round 2 of semifinals and losers will be eliminated
    • Round2 of semifinals will be played between the winners of round 1 semi finals and losers of Div-1 semi finals, winners will advance to finals and losers will be eliminated
    • Championship game will be played between the two remaining teams.

Rules

Player Rules

1. A team can have a maximum of 8 players, but no more than 6 players on court and no less than 4 players on the court at any given time. 
2. No person may play on more than one team.
3. Should be at least 15 years old and should individually consent to abide by the tournament rules as well as the Volleyball game rules.

Substitute Rules

1. A maximum of 2 substitutes and 2 timeouts (1 minute each) will be allowed per team, per set.
2. Substitution will be a ‘Player to Player’ substitution any time when the ball is dead, i.e. the same player will substitute with the other player for the entire set. The player won’t be allowed to substitute for any other player on the team, except in case of a player being injured.

General Rules

  1. Before the ball is served, each player must be in their designated area, and in proper rotation
  2. A team must rotate one position prior to every serve (even on the first service break).
  3. Substitution will be a ‘Player to Player’ substitution, i.e. the same player will substitute with the other player for the entire game. He won’t be allowed to substitute for any other player on the team, except in case of a player being injured.
  4. There is no limit to number of substitutions (abiding above rule# 3).
  5. Players may only hit the ball on their side of the net. A player may not attack a ball that has not yet crossed the vertical plane of the net on either the first or second hit, provided that neither of these hits were attacks.
  6. No serve may be blocked or attacked.
  7. A legal hit is a slap or bounce type action. There must be no prolonged contact. Soft dinks are not allowed, no open hand or fingertip play will be allowed.
  8. Players are permitted to penetrate into the opponent’s space under the net, provided that this does not interfere with the opponents play.
  9. Contact with the net by a player IS A FAULT. When the ball is driven into the net and causes it to touch an opponent, no fault is committed.
  10. Insignificant contact with the net by a player not involved in the action of playing the ball is allowed.
  11. The ball may touch any part of the body.
  12. A player may only have one toss per serve attempt.
  13. The referee shall whistle to stop the ongoing rally. Players should continue to play the ball until/unless they hear the referee whistle to stop play.
  14. If for unforeseen circumstances we have to postpone a game, it will be rescheduled the following day subject to availability of courts.
  15. Referee’s decision is final and binding on both the teams – in clear cut calls as well as any grey areas. The Referee may call for a replay in close cases where he is unable to make a decision. The captain may remind the referee about any specific lapses in rules enforcement so referee is aware for further play.
  16. The team captain is responsible for discipline and proper conduct of team members, and is the only player who may address the referees and shall be the spokesperson of his/her team.
  17. Referee and STRIVE organizing committee reserve the right to evict any player/team for unsportsmanlike conduct of any nature.
